Please note that there are 2 running sections that are still in abeyance and cannot be confirmed until the water table drops, as some areas are too wet to safety pass at the moment.
In addition, the route from the top of the Hook drive back to the Five Bells for the finish has yet to be confirmed.
As soon as these have been agreed we will update the website.
The map also identifies the change points and where these are compulsory or voluntary.
Parking at change points will be identified closer to the time. We have shown the public car parks and will aim to secure some off-road parking where possible.
Please ensure your transport arrangements are carefully planned as part of your event strategy, as the roads will be busy on the day and you don’t want to miss a changeover!.
If anyone does not have a Canoe or Kayak you are able to use a paddleboard. This must be for a single team member with one paddle and the safety equipment rules apply. It should be noted that the river does have tree debris and overhanging branches therefore inflatable paddleboards are at risk of being punctured. Please let us know if this is your preferred option or you require assistance in organising this section.
The section of river is currently underwater – infact it looks more like a lake than a river!
As part of our preparation, we will do our very best to clear obstacles such as protruding tree debris and low hanging branches, however the success of this is very weather dependant! Participants are encouraged to walk this section of the course. The waiver expressly references participants responsibility for their own safety, whilst we will do everything possible to reduce potential risks.
In the event that part of the river is impassable, for whatever reason, the following contingency plans may be put into place:
1. Canoeist may have to get out and run the riverbank with their canoe / kayak / paddleboard
2. Canoeist may have to get out and run the riverbank leaving their canoe / kayak / paddleboard on the river bank which would have to be collected once the section is complete
3. In extreme circumstances the canoe section may have to be abandoned and replaced with a running section
We will endeavour to make final decisions as far in advance of the event as possible but bear in mind that it is possible that last minute changes may have to be made depending on conditions.
This is a very rough fly through to give you a sense of the route.
